2027: Women Mobilize Massive Support for Atuma, Orji and Tinubu in Abia Central

The political landscape in Abia Central received a significant boost as women across the senatorial district gathered in Umuahia to reaffirm their support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its frontline candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections. The meeting, organized under the platform of the Ikwuano/Umuahia Women’s Forum for Rt. Hon. Emeka Atuma for Senate and Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji for the House of Representatives, demonstrated the growing grassroots momentum behind the party’s campaign.
Addressing the enthusiastic gathering, Rt. Hon. Emeka Atuma, APC Senatorial Candidate for Abia Central, charged the women to remain united and committed to the party’s victory at all levels. He called on them to mobilize support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while also canvassing votes for his senatorial bid and the candidature of Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji for the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency seat. According to him, the 2027 elections present another opportunity for the people to embrace experienced and result-oriented leadership.
The meeting attracted a large number of women stakeholders, community leaders, party faithful, and grassroots mobilizers from Umuahia North, Umuahia South, and Ikwuano Local Government Areas, as well as supporters from other parts of Abia Central. Participants expressed confidence in the leadership capacity of Atuma and Orji, describing them as tested public servants with the experience and vision needed to provide effective representation and attract meaningful development to the constituency.
The event ended on a high note with a vote of thanks delivered by the Forum Coordinator, Lady Joy Maduka. Speaking on behalf of the women, she assured the APC candidates of their unwavering support and pledged that the forum would work tirelessly to secure overwhelming votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Rt. Hon. Emeka Atuma, and Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji in 2027. The declaration was greeted with applause, signaling the women’s determination to play a decisive role in the party’s electoral success.

The dispute centres on Wike’s support for Tinubu alongside his continued political affiliation with the PDP and his promotion of a cross-party “Rainbow Coalition,” while APC governors insist their campaign commitment remains with the party’s candidates. A senior presidential aide cited by The PUNCH said Tinubu could engage the parties while he is in France in an effort to resolve their differences and prevent the dispute from affecting their respective political activities. The report said the proposed intervention could take place before the end of the week, although the meeting had not been independently confirmed. The disagreement intensified after Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, chairman of the APC Progressive Governors’ Forum, said the governors would not support any political arrangement that could weaken the APC or undermine the party’s candidates in 2027. Wike has maintained that his support for Tinubu’s presidential bid does not require him to support APC candidates in governorship and legislative contests. Wike has also rejected the suggestion that he sought an alliance with the APC Governors’ Forum, saying he had never approached the forum over the proposed coalition. He has argued that his political activities are focused on supporting Tinubu while allowing opposition parties to contest other positions. The dispute has also generated reactions within the APC, including from the party’s South-East leadership, which has backed the governors and criticised Wike’s comments. Meanwhile, former House Minority Leader Farouk Adamu-Aliyu said the APC appreciates Wike’s previous role in weakening the PDP but would not allow him to use the ruling party to advance a separate political structure. With the 2027 elections approaching, the reported effort by Tinubu to mediate reflects the significance of the disagreement within the governing political establishment. Whether the parties reach an understanding will depend on how they reconcile Wike’s stated support for Tinubu with the APC governors’ insistence on party candidates and organisational loyalty.
