BENDE 2027: THE CONTROVERSY OVER THE ALLEGED AGREEMENT THAT FAILED TO FLY
The political atmosphere in Bende is gradually heating up as debates surrounding the 2027 House of Representatives election continue to intensify. Critics of Chima Anyaso have accused his camp of focusing more on circulating an alleged agreement said to have been signed on January 10, 2019, rather than explaining his vision, plans, and proposed benefits for the people of Bende. They argue that political ambition should be driven by clear policies and a convincing record, not by documents whose authenticity and relevance have become subjects of public debate.
One of the major questions raised by the critics concerns the events of February 23, 2019, when Chima Anyaso reportedly obtained a nomination form and contested against Benjamin Kalu of Ikwuisii. They question why an agreement allegedly signed just weeks earlier is now being presented as a major argument ahead of the 2027 election. According to them, if the document was binding at the time, its interpretation and enforcement should have been addressed then rather than being revived years later to support a new political position.
The debate has also brought the issue of equity and political rotation to the forefront. Critics argue that the principle of fairness should be applied consistently and not only when it benefits a particular aspirant. They have questioned why the demand for rotation is being emphasized in the contest for the Bende Federal Constituency seat while similar considerations are not being raised in other political positions. For them, genuine equity requires consistency, fairness, and equal standards for everyone involved.
Beyond the controversy over the alleged agreement, the critics insist that the people of Bende deserve to hear a clear explanation of what Chima Anyaso hopes to achieve in the House of Representatives and the practical benefits his candidacy would bring to the constituency. They maintain that every aspirant has a constitutional right to contest an election, but that the right must be accompanied by a convincing agenda, grassroots engagement, and a clear understanding of the responsibilities of the office being sought.
Supporters of Benjamin Kalu, on the other hand, point to his emergence in the 2019 election and his subsequent rise to the position of Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives as reasons they believe he should continue to represent Bende. They argue that the constituency should carefully assess his record, achievements, and contributions before making a decision about 2027. They also maintain that an alleged document, regardless of how frequently it is shared on social media, should not replace verifiable facts, meaningful political debate, and an objective assessment of candidates.

As the race towards 2027 approaches, the people of Bende will ultimately have the opportunity to consider the arguments, examine the records of the aspirants, and decide who best represents their interests. The controversy surrounding the alleged 2019 agreement remains a matter for clarification, and its authenticity and implications should be established through credible evidence rather than social media claims. For Benjamin Kalu's supporters, the message remains firm: “NO VACANCY IN BENDE! BENJAMIN KALU REMAINS OUR CHOICE FOR BENDE FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY!”
