Supporters of the Kwankwasiyya movement have explained the reasons behind the reported decision of former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to leave the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the National Democratic Coalition (NDC) ahead of the 2027 general elections. According to key figures within the movement, the decision was reached after wide consultations aimed at building a stronger opposition coalition capable of challenging the ruling party at the national level.
Sources within the movement disclosed that Kwankwaso agreed to work with Peter Obi as a vice-presidential candidate in order to promote unity among opposition blocs and avoid divisions that could weaken their chances in the 2027 presidential race.
They argued that both leaders command massive grassroots support across different regions of the country and that a joint ticket would create a formidable political force.
Kwankwasiyya stakeholders further stated that the move was driven by the desire to rescue Nigeria from worsening economic hardship, insecurity, and unemployment. They maintained that the alliance between Kwankwaso and Obi represents a partnership focused on competence, national development, and inclusive governance.
According to them, the coalition is expected to attract millions of young voters and dissatisfied Nigerians seeking political change.
The group also dismissed claims that Kwankwaso abandoned the ADC due to internal disagreements, insisting that the decision was purely strategic and aimed at strengthening opposition unity. They noted that discussions between loyalists of both camps had been ongoing for months before the agreement was finalized.

Political observers believe that the reported alliance could significantly reshape the political landscape ahead of 2027, especially in northern and southeastern Nigeria where both politicians enjoy considerable influence. Analysts say the combination of Kwankwaso’s northern political structure and Obi’s popularity among youths may pose a major challenge to other presidential contenders.
Meanwhile, members of the Kwankwasiyya movement have urged supporters to remain calm and committed as preparations intensify for the next general elections. They expressed confidence that the proposed alliance would offer Nigerians what they described as a credible and people-oriented alternative leadership for the country.
