"My Wife's Friend Stole N60m From Our Akawo Business and Her Brother is Threatening to K!ll Me" – Man Petitions Abia Dep Gov
UMUAHIA – A businessman, Mr. Ohia Chisom Joshua, has petitioned the Abia State Deputy Governor over an alleged N60 million fraud committed by a woman he identified as his wife's friend, Mrs. Chioma Isaac Jeremiah, whom he described as "a green snake in a green grass."
Ohia, a convener of a contributory organization known as "God is Here," Back Bone Tv alleged that Ms Jeremiah stole the money over a period of four years by fraudulently filling her contribution cards and claiming the funds at the end of each contribution period.
According to the petition, the suspect secretly removed her contribution card from his shop without his notice, forged his signature, and returned the card without his knowledge, allowing her to make fraudulent claims over time.
"She has been secretly forging our signature unknown to us since 2022. We have been having shortages in our business, not knowing that she is the one because we were seeing her as a family friend, not knowing she is a green snake in a green grass," Ohia stated.
When the matter was reported to the police, the suspect reportedly confessed to the crime. Her brother also promised to pay N30 million as part of an out-of-court settlement, according to the complainant.
"When I started having losses in my business, I suspected that she was a penetrator and I recovered the card inside her bag which she confessed to have removed from my shop," Ohia stated in the petition. "She also confessed to stealing my money that she has been into the act since 4 years ago."
Upon reconciling his accounts, Ohia discovered that a total sum of N60 million had been stolen, leaving him unable to settle his members.
The complainant reported the matter to the Centre Police Station in Aba, but according to him, he has yet to obtain the full judgment needed in the matter.
In a related development, Ohia alleged that the suspect's family has been threatening his life over the case.
"Her family is threatening to k!ill me," he said.
On February 13, 2026, the suspect, Mrs. Chioma Peters, signed an agreement undertaking to pay the sum of N30 million out of the N60 million stolen. The agreement, witnessed by a surety, Mr. Isaac Jeremiah, stipulated that she would pay between N50,000 and N100,000 weekly starting from February 20, 2026.
"I made this agreement in good faith not under duress or influence of any kind," the document reads. "That if I fail to comply with this agreement, let the law take its course on me."
The Nigeria Police Force has since invited the complainant for an interview as part of investigations into the case of misappropriation of trust and criminal conversion. A police invitation letter dated February 18, 2026, from the Zone 9 Headquarters in Umuahia requested Ohia to report for an interview on February 24, 2026.
The matter has also been scheduled for arraignment at the Chief Magistrate's Court Aba North, sitting at CPS Aba, on May 13, 2026.
Ohia is now appealing to the public and government authorities for intervention.
"I am notifying the general public. I am calling on the government of Abia State, the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, the Deputy Governor, and all well-meaning Nigerians to come to my rescue," he said.
He also called on Senate Enyinnaya Abaribe, the General Overseer of OPM, Apostle Gift Chinyere Chibuzor, and other Nigerians who love justice to help him out of the calamity that has befallen him.
"Thanks and God bless," he concluded.
Efforts to reach the suspect for comment were unsuccessful as of press time.
