President Commends Security Forces After Successful Rescue of Abducted Teachers and Students
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has confirmed that security operatives arrested eight suspected terrorists and killed several others during an intelligence-led operation that secured the release of teachers and students abducted in Orire, Oyo State. The President disclosed this while reacting to the successful rescue of the captives on July 10, 2026, describing the operation as a major breakthrough against criminal elements.
According to the President, the coordinated mission involved the military, police, and intelligence agencies, whose efforts brought an end to the more than 50-day ordeal of the victims. He praised the security personnel for their professionalism and bravery, noting that the operation successfully neutralised some of the terrorists responsible for the attack while apprehending eight others.
Tinubu said the successful rescue had brought relief to the affected families and the nation as a whole. He expressed appreciation to the officers and personnel of the Armed Forces, intelligence services, and the Nigeria Police Force for ensuring the safe return of the abducted teachers and students without further casualties during the operation.
The President also vowed that his administration would ensure justice for the victims, particularly for Mr. Oyedokun, the teacher who was reportedly murdered while in captivity. He assured Nigerians that those responsible for the crime would be held accountable in accordance with the law.
In addition, Tinubu commended the Oyo State Government for its cooperation throughout the rescue effort, describing the collaboration between federal and state authorities as instrumental to the successful outcome. He said the joint response demonstrated the importance of coordinated action in tackling insecurity across the country.

The rescue operation marks a significant victory in ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and kidnapping in Nigeria. Authorities are expected to continue investigations following the arrest of the eight suspects, while security agencies intensify efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating in the region.
