Financial realities Matters
Leave past administrations aside and embrace transparency and accountability in assessing governance. Financial realities matter. Former Governor Ikpeazu managed the state with total receipts of about ₦600 billion over eight years, while Governor Otti has received nearly ₦1.2 trillion in just two and a half years.
These figures alone show that the operating environments were very different and should be judged with fairness and context. It is also important to remember that by 2015, Ohanku Road was not the only road in terrible condition in Abia State. Umuola Road, where Real FM is situated, faced similar neglect. Osusu Road was equally bad, Aba–Owerri Road was in distress, Faulks Road was deteriorated, and Ngwa Road was no better.
The challenges were widespread, not isolated. No administration can realistically fix every problem within a limited time and resources. While not everything was done, some critical interventions were made. Certain roads were recovered, and others received attention, showing that efforts were indeed made to improve infrastructure under difficult circumstances.
The fact that Governor Otti has successfully rehabilitated Port Harcourt Road and Ohanku Road should not automatically invalidate the contributions of past leaders.
Progress today does not mean there was total failure yesterday. Each administration operates within its own constraints and opportunities. It is also unrealistic to assume that all road problems will end with the current government. Even after Governor Otti’s tenure, there will still be roads to fix and challenges to address. Governance is a continuous process, not a one-time solution.

Overall, the bigger picture is that Abia State is moving forward. Progress should be acknowledged where it exists, while honesty, transparency, and accountability remain the standards for evaluating both past and present administrations.
