A Proven Record of Representation That Demands Continuity

As the 2027 general elections draw closer, Bende Federal Constituency faces a defining decision about its political future. In every sphere of life, whether in sports, business, or governance, successful systems are strengthened rather than abandoned. No sensible coach replaces a star performer with an inexperienced player when victory is within reach, and politics should be approached with the same level of responsibility. Representation is far more than popularity or online visibility; it is about delivering meaningful development that improves the lives of citizens. From quality education and healthcare to road infrastructure and economic opportunities, the future of Bende is too important to be entrusted to uncertainty or experimentation when there is already a leader with a proven record of results.

Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, PhD, CFR, who serves as the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and represents Bende Federal Constituency, has consistently translated legislative influence into tangible benefits for his people. One of the strongest examples of this achievement is the establishment of two federal tertiary institutions in Bende—the Federal College of Education, Bende, and the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Item. These institutions originated from bills personally sponsored by Kalu and signed into law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in June 2025. More recently, the approval of Certificates of Occupancy by Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has moved both projects closer to full implementation, positioning Bende to host two major federal institutions that will have a lasting impact on the constituency.

The benefits of these institutions extend well beyond the classroom. Their establishment is expected to create numerous employment opportunities for academic professionals, administrative personnel, healthcare workers, artisans, contractors, and other support staff, providing sustainable jobs for residents. The Federal College of Education will offer young people in Bende and neighboring communities greater access to affordable teacher education and professional training, while the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences will produce doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, supported by a teaching hospital capable of delivering specialized medical services. In addition, these institutions are expected to stimulate economic growth through improved infrastructure, increased commercial activities, greater demand for housing, and enhanced investment, further strengthening Bende's position as an emerging educational and economic hub.

These accomplishments also demonstrate the importance of experienced leadership and established relationships at the federal level. Large-scale projects require consistent engagement with ministries, government agencies, and key decision-makers to ensure they are fully implemented. While new leaders have an important place in the political process, replacing the very lawmaker who initiated and continues to oversee these landmark projects with someone lacking legislative experience could jeopardize their successful completion. Political continuity is often essential to sustaining development, especially when projects of such significance are already well advanced and require dedicated follow-through to achieve their intended objectives.

Ultimately, Benjamin Kalu's performance is measured not by campaign promises or social media campaigns but by visible and measurable achievements across Bende Federal Constituency. The emergence of two federally approved institutions stands as lasting evidence of effective representation and strategic leadership. As voters prepare to make their choice in 2027, the question before them is whether to preserve a leadership that has delivered concrete progress or to risk interrupting that momentum through political experimentation. Like every successful team that values consistency over unnecessary change, Bende must carefully protect the progress it has made to ensure that future generations continue to benefit from the opportunities these transformational projects will provide.
