Health: Hypo Issues Public Safety Warning: Bleach Not For Drinking

The company has observed videos and AI-generated images circulating online that misrepresent Hypo as a drink.

Hypo, Nigeria’s leading bleach brand, is issuing a public safety warning in response to misleading social media content that falsely portrays bleach as a beverage.

Hypo bleach is a household cleaning and disinfecting product formulated to remove stains, whiten fabrics, deodorize, and eliminate 99.9% of germs. It is not safe for human consumption under any circumstances. Ingesting bleach can cause serious injury and poses significant health risks.

The company has observed videos and AI-generated images circulating online that misrepresent Hypo as a drink. These depictions are fabricated and dangerous. Any content that suggests or encourages the consumption of bleach—even as a joke, prank, or social media challenge—puts lives at risk.

Hypo urges influencers, bloggers, and content creators to act responsibly and refrain from producing or sharing content that could endanger public health. Online engagement should never come at the expense of safety.

Young Nigerians and all social media users are strongly advised not to participate in any trend, challenge, or dare involving household cleaning products. No viral moment is worth risking your health. If you feel pressured to engage in harmful behavior, speak with a trusted guardian, counselor, or healthcare professional.

Hypo also encourages individuals experiencing emotional distress or harmful peer pressure to seek appropriate support. Asking for help is a sign of strength, and professional guidance can make a critical difference.

Consumer safety remains a top priority for Hypo. The company will continue to monitor misinformation and take appropriate steps to protect the wellbeing of the public.

Let’s keep social media engaging—but safe.
