More than 300 residents of Nkporo in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State have received free medical services through a healthcare outreach organized by the Ikenna & Jenn Ukwa Foundation in partnership with the Ikenna Ukwa Progressive Group.
Conducted at the Cottage Hospital, Nkporo, with the approval of the Abia State Ministry of Health, the initiative provided much-needed medical care to elderly persons, women, children, and other vulnerable members of the community who have been affected by the increasing cost of healthcare. The outreach offered hope and relief to many families by bringing essential medical services directly to their doorstep.
The exercise included medical consultations, laboratory tests, blood pressure and blood sugar screening, eye examinations, free prescription glasses, distribution of medications, and food items for women. Beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the opportunity to access quality healthcare without financial burden. The event reflected the Foundation's commitment to improving the wellbeing of underserved communities by ensuring that basic medical services are available to those who need them most.
Speaking during the outreach, the Co-founder of the Foundation, Hon. Chief Ikenna Nicolas Ukwa, explained that the programme was inspired by the belief that access to healthcare should not depend on an individual's financial capacity. He noted that he and his wife, Lolo Jennifer E. Ukwa, established the Foundation with a passion for humanitarian service and have consistently supported vulnerable communities over the years. He reaffirmed the Foundation's determination to expand its interventions, stating that similar healthcare programmes would be extended to other communities across the Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency. In a remarkable show of compassion, Chief Ukwa also pledged to personally sponsor free hernia surgeries for children identified during the outreach and instructed the Resident Doctor of the Cottage Hospital, Dr. Ufere Okeaso Ndukwe, to begin the necessary medical arrangements without delay.

The gesture was warmly received by beneficiaries, many of whom described the programme as life-changing. Mrs. Comfort, who had been unable to seek treatment for eye and blood pressure problems because of financial challenges, expressed gratitude after receiving free medical care, prescription glasses, and medication. Another beneficiary, Mr. Azu Uka, commended the Foundation for easing the burden on families struggling to afford healthcare. The successful outreach demonstrated the Foundation's unwavering commitment to service, compassion, and humanitarian impact, as Hon. Chief Ikenna Nicolas Ukwa and Lolo Jennifer E. Ukwa continue to touch lives by providing practical support and improving the wellbeing of communities across the constituency.
