Onyeama Augustine, Coordinator of the Club 17 Peace Initiative, Aba South Chapter, has voiced strong confidence in the future of Abia State, affirming that he “requires no further persuasion or appeal” as the expected emergence of Deputy Speaker Benjamin Okezie Kalu LL.D PhD, CFR, represents a defining moment for the state. In his view, the growing anticipation among Abians reflects a wave of renewed optimism, one he described as a “circle of joy” poised to bring about genuine transformation across various sectors.
Augustine explained that the LGA's of Abia are gradually embracing the promise of a new leadership direction—one that is focused on delivering real results rather than empty assurances. He stressed that this transition is expected to rebuild public trust in governance while laying a solid groundwork for long-term, sustainable development. According to him, the state is moving toward a system where leadership will translate vision into measurable progress.
A key aspect of this hopeful outlook, Augustine noted, is the urgent need to revamp the education sector. He emphasized that meaningful reforms will not only improve learning outcomes but also prepare young people with the knowledge and competencies needed to thrive in today’s world. Complementing this, he highlighted the importance of structured skill acquisition programs designed to empower youths, reduce unemployment, and encourage self-sufficiency.
He further pointed to entrepreneurship as a vital engine for economic advancement in Abia State. By fostering a supportive environment for small and medium-scale enterprises, Augustine believes the state can harness the creativity and resilience of its people. He also assured that infrastructure development under this envisioned leadership would be deliberate, transparent, and impactful, addressing pressing challenges while supporting future growth.
In addition, Augustine expressed optimism regarding the welfare of pensioners and civil servants, many of whom have endured uncertainty due to delayed or suspended benefits. He observed that the anticipated leadership has already reignited hope among these groups, offering the prospect of fairness, stability, and respect for workers’ rights.
For Augustine, this moment signals the dawn of a new era in Abia—one anchored on accountability, compassion, and inclusive development. He maintained that with the right leadership in place, the state is well-positioned to achieve meaningful progress that will benefit all its citizens.
