Hon. Ikenna Nicolas Ukwa, the APC flag bearer for Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, has introduced a temporary free transportation service for residents of Ohafia as part of efforts to reduce the burden created by the recent ban on commercial motorcycles (Okada). The initiative reflects his commitment to supporting the welfare of the people during a challenging period and ensuring that residents have easier access to transportation.
The free transport service currently operates along the Amaekpu–Akanu route and is designed to provide immediate relief to commuters affected by the restriction on Okada operations. According to the organizers, arrangements are already underway to expand the scheme to other major areas across Ohafia so that more residents can benefit from the intervention.
The motorcycle ban has posed serious challenges for many members of the community, including traders, farmers, students, artisans, civil servants, women, and elderly citizens. With fewer transportation options available, many people now spend more on commuting, while others are compelled to walk long distances to workplaces, schools, markets, and other destinations in order to meet their daily responsibilities.
In response to these difficulties, Chief Ikenna Nicolas Ukwa, through the Ikenna & Jenn Ukwa Foundation and the Ikenna Ukwa Progressive Group, has provided this temporary transportation scheme to help bridge the mobility gap while longer-term solutions are awaited. Residents have been encouraged to make good use of the free service, cooperate with the operators, and protect the buses to ensure the initiative continues to serve as many people as possible.
