Abia State Government has clarified that the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) housing estate project in the state is a collaborative initiative between the state and the Federal Government, aimed at expanding access to affordable housing and improving urban development.
The clarification comes amid public interest in the ownership and execution structure of the housing scheme, which is part of the Federal Government’s broader housing intervention programme across Nigeria. The state government explained that the project is not solely a federal undertaking, but a partnership arrangement designed to leverage both federal funding and state-level support for effective delivery.
According to officials, Abia State’s role in the collaboration includes providing enabling support such as land allocation, site coordination, and facilitating smooth implementation processes, while the Federal Housing Authority oversees design, funding frameworks, and construction supervision. This model follows similar federal–state housing partnerships being implemented in other parts of the country under national housing initiatives.
The state government further emphasized that the joint arrangement is intended to address Nigeria’s housing deficit, which has continued to grow over the years, by increasing the supply of affordable housing units and promoting sustainable urban settlements in Abia State.
Officials also noted that the partnership aligns with ongoing national housing programmes that encourage collaboration between federal agencies and state governments, ensuring that development projects are faster, more inclusive, and better distributed across regions.

In conclusion, the Abia Government restated its commitment to working closely with the Federal Government to ensure the successful delivery of the FHA housing estate, describing the project as a key step toward improving living conditions and expanding homeownership opportunities for residents in the state.
