Amaiyi Okpo Monarch Appeals to Abia Government Over 30-Year Neglect of Access Road
The traditional ruler of Amaiyi Okpo in Ihechiowa, Arochukwu Local Government Area, Eze Michael Ifi Njoku Kalu (OSCO), has called on Governor Alex Otti and the Abia State Government to urgently rehabilitate the Okpo-Achara Ihechiowa road, which serves as the major access route to the community. According to the monarch, years of neglect have left residents struggling with severe transportation challenges and limited access to essential services.
Speaking on the condition of the community, Eze Kalu lamented that no administration has undertaken meaningful work on the road for over three decades. He explained that the situation has worsened to the point where residents are compelled to trek long distances before reaching nearby communities, making daily activities extremely difficult.
The royal father noted that the road has deteriorated so badly that vehicles can no longer enter Amaiyi Okpo, leaving the community largely cut off from the outside world. He stressed that despite Amaiyi Okpo's strategic location as a border community linking Ututu Ihechiowa with Cross River and Akwa Ibom States, and despite its significant voting population, it has continued to suffer from inadequate infrastructure and minimal government attention.

Eze Kalu further appealed to Governor Otti to come to the aid of the people, emphasizing that while community members have made efforts to maintain internal roads, they lack the resources required to reconstruct a major access road. He also expressed concern over the absence of basic government-provided amenities, noting that most of the available facilities were established through the contributions of indigenes. He urged the state government to intervene urgently and bring lasting development to the community.
