Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has dismissed circulating reports alleging that history has been removed from Nigerian school curricula, describing such claims as “fake news.” He emphasized that the narrative being pushed in some quarters does not align with verified facts about the nation’s education policy.
According to Kalu, official records and credible sources clearly show that history remains part of the school curriculum. He noted that contrary to the widespread misinformation, relevant educational authorities have not taken any steps to erase history from teaching and learning materials across schools.
The Deputy Speaker further pointed out that a widely cited website, often referenced to support the claims, actually contradicts the assertion that history was removed from school books. He explained that information available on the platform confirms the continued inclusion and relevance of history in academic instruction.

Kalu urged the public to rely on accurate information and avoid spreading unverified reports that could mislead citizens and undermine confidence in the education system.

He stressed the importance of fact-checking and responsible communication, especially on issues as sensitive as national education policy.
