Just In: Governor Otti Acknowledges Federal Support for Abia Road Projects

On 25 October 2025, Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, publicly confirmed that several major road projects in the state were funded through the Federal Government led by Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The governor made this known in a statement shared on his official Facebook page after undertaking a joint inspection tour with the Minister of Works, David Umahi. His remarks highlighted the cooperation between the Abia State Government and the federal administration in advancing critical infrastructure projects within the state.

Strategic Partnership With the Federal Government

Governor Otti described the progress on the road projects as the outcome of what he called a productive partnership with the Federal Government. According to him, the collaboration under President Tinubu’s leadership has already led to approvals for several important federal road projects across Abia State. He emphasized that this synergy has enabled the state to witness renewed attention to long-neglected transportation infrastructure.

Key Road Projects Identified

Among the projects mentioned by the governor were the Umuahia–Ikot Ekpene Road, the Owerrinta–Umuikaa dualization, the Onuimo Tower Road dualization, the Ohafia–Arochukwu Road, and the recently completed Omenuko Bridge. These roads are significant transportation corridors connecting communities and boosting economic activities across different parts of the state.

Federal Responsibility for the Projects

The governor also clarified that these projects fall within the jurisdiction of the Federal Government. As federal roads, they are managed under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Works, which handles their approval, funding structure, and overall implementation. This underscores the role of the national government in executing the projects.

Ben Kalu’s Position at the APC Congress

During the Abia State APC Congress held in Umuahia, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, reiterated that the projects were delivered under the administration of President Tinubu. His statement aligned with Governor Otti’s earlier confirmation that the federal government played a decisive role in facilitating the development of these roads.

The discussion surrounding the projects highlights a straightforward reality: the roads are federal assets, their approvals came from the Federal Government, and their execution is supervised at the national level. While political interpretations may differ, documented statements made publicly by government officials provide clear evidence of the collaborative efforts that brought the projects to life.
