Lawmaker Explains How Official-Looking Documents and Verified Office Address Led Him to Engage the Controversial Organization

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has revealed that he was also misled by the alleged activities of the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), an organization currently facing scrutiny over questions regarding its legitimacy. Speaking during Wednesday's plenary session at the House of Representatives, Kalu explained that the council initially appeared credible after his office received what seemed to be an official communication bearing government insignia.

Kalu recounted that the correspondence, received in May 2025, was presented on a letterhead associated with the Presidency and claimed to originate from the Office of the Director-General of the PFIPC. The document further listed the Federal Secretariat Complex, Phase Three, Second Floor, Central Business District, Abuja, as its operational address. Although he observed certain inconsistencies in the letter, the overall presentation gave the impression that the organization was officially recognized.

To avoid acting on assumptions, the Deputy Speaker said he instructed members of his staff to independently verify the claims before any engagement could take place. According to him, his aides visited the address provided in the letter and confirmed that the organization was indeed operating from the stated location. Based on that verification, he approved a meeting with its representatives. Kalu also disclosed that after the interaction, photographs of him were circulated publicly alongside those of the self-proclaimed Director-General of the council, Adeniyi Adeyemi, creating the impression of an official association.

Addressing fellow lawmakers, Kalu maintained that he was equally deceived by the circumstances, stressing that the apparent authenticity of the documents and the confirmed office location contributed to his decision to grant the audience. His remarks come as authorities continue to investigate the status and operations of the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, with growing public interest in determining whether the body had any legal backing or official recognition.
