I am very delighted that the resolution I proposed to the Inter-Parliamentary Union on The Role of Parliaments in Establishing Robust Post-Conflict Management Mechanisms and Restoring a Just and Lasting Peace has been adopted by the Standing Committee on Peace and International Security.
After a two-day robust debate, over a year of careful review, and 155 contributions from countries across the world, this adoption is proof that inclusive dialogue and collective commitment to peace can deliver results.
I commend my co-rapporteurs, Fati Belhirch of the Netherlands and Ahmad Al-Zu’bi of Jordan, for their support for the resolution, as well as all the members of the Inter-Parliamentary Union who voted at the 152nd Inter-Parliamentary Union General Assembly.
With this resolution now adopted, parliaments will prioritize legislative frameworks to rebalance national and international budgetary priorities in favour of peacebuilding and prevention, prioritize conflict-affected populations in reconstruction and financing, and strengthen transparency and anti-corruption safeguards in recovery funds.

This journey has only just begun. The real work now lies in ensuring that parliaments across member states translate this resolution into concrete policies that restore dignity and lasting peace to communities shattered by conflict. I remain committed to this advocacy as we continue to work towards its effective implementation.
