Just In: Kampala Convention - Rep. Benjamin Okezie Kalu
I am delighted that the bill on the African Union Convention for the Protection and Assistance of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), also known as the Kampala Convention (Domestication and Enforcement) Act, which I sponsored alongside 6 other of my colleagues has been signed into law by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
With over 3.6 million Nigerians displaced due to insurgency, banditry, and natural disasters, this law strengthens Nigeria’s commitment to protecting the rights and welfare of internally displaced persons, while providing a coordinated framework for prevention, protection, and durable solutions.
I commend Mr. President for taking this bold step and assenting to this important legislation, demonstrating a clear commitment to restoring hope and dignity to internally displaced Nigerians.
As implementation begins, I urge government institutions, civil society, and development partners to work together to ensure the full realization of the objectives of this Bill .

As a nation, we must continue to stand with displaced communities and provide pathways toward recovery, security, and renewed hope.
