Benjamin Okezie Kalu PhD, CFR, has emphasized that true leadership should never be treated as worship, just as governance should never be seen as royalty.
According to him, public office is a responsibility entrusted to leaders by the people, not a crown that places anyone above accountability or constructive criticism. He maintained that democracy can only thrive when citizens are free to express their opinions without fear or intimidation.
He further stated that no governor or government administration is above criticism, regardless of temporary political popularity or influence. Suppressing opposition voices, he noted, weakens democratic values and discourages honest conversations that can lead to growth and better governance.
True leadership, he stressed, is reflected in humility, tolerance, and the ability to listen even to dissenting opinions for the greater good of society.
