NURTW Blocks Mokwa Roads Over Rising Cases Of Kidnapping
They called on the Niger State Government and security agencies to urgently strengthen security operations along the highway to protect road users and prevent further abductions.
The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) on Saturday blocked major entry and exit routes in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State to protest the rising cases of kidnapping along the Mokwa–Kainji highway.
The action disrupted vehicular movement in parts of the town, leaving hundreds of commuters and motorists stranded and causing heavy traffic congestion.
The transport workers said the protest was triggered by what they described as the worsening security situation along the highway, alleging that drivers and passengers travelling on the route had increasingly become targets of kidnappers.
