Residents Call for Attention to Flood-Prone Roads in Osisioma and Aba
The Abia State Government recently announced that it has constructed 414 road projects across the state, a development that has been widely acknowledged as a significant step toward improving infrastructure and easing transportation challenges. While many communities have benefited from these projects, residents have appealed to the government to extend similar interventions to several neglected roads that continue to cause hardship, especially during the rainy season.
According to concerned citizens, a number of roads in Osisioma Local Government Area remain in deplorable condition and require urgent government attention. Areas such as Umuode Road, Umuojima, and the Eke-Akpara Road leading to Ugba Junction have become major sources of concern. Residents say these roads are frequently submerged whenever it rains, making movement difficult for motorists, traders, students, and other road users.
The flooding situation is also said to be severe along Opobo Road, particularly after the Magic FM axis, as well as along MCC Road near Father Tansi Catholic Church. During heavy rainfall, these locations reportedly become waterlogged, creating conditions that resemble an ocean and forcing commuters to wade through water to access their homes and businesses.
Similarly, portions of Ikot-Ekpene Road, especially from the First Bank and NTA corridor down to Opobo Junction, have been identified as areas requiring urgent drainage and road rehabilitation works. Residents have therefore appealed to Governor Alex Otti's administration to consider these flood-prone locations in its ongoing infrastructure development plans, noting that addressing the challenges would greatly improve the quality of life and economic activities in the affected communities.
