Just In: Strengthening Africa–EU Ties Through Near-Shoring: Key Talks at IPU Assembly

It was my pleasure to meet and discuss with the Vice President of the European Parliament, Nicolae Stefanuta, at the ongoing 152nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union held in Istanbul, Turkiye.

While we discussed several ways to deepen relationships between parliamentarians across both continents, we also shared further insights on my recommendations at the European Union Parliament last year, at the core of which was the concept of Near-Shoring.

My call on the European Union to deploy its industrial, technological and innovation advancements to establish industries in Africa, utilizing its abundance of human and material resources as a way of mitigating the migration of Africans who flock to Europe in search of better opportunities, remains firm.

I look forward to the actualization of these recommendations as we continue to forge stronger partnerships and strengthen collaboration for shared growth and sustainable development across our continents.
