Wike Defends Gbajabiamila, Dismisses PFIPCgate Allegations as Politically Motivated
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has come to the defence of the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, describing the allegations linking him to the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) controversy as politically motivated and lacking credibility.
Speaking on the matter, Wike maintained that the claims against Gbajabiamila were designed to tarnish the reputation of a public official with an established record of service. He argued that there was no convincing evidence to support the allegations and cautioned against rushing to conclusions based on unverified reports.
The FCT Minister stressed that public office holders should not be subjected to coordinated campaigns aimed at discrediting them for political advantage. According to him, accusations of such magnitude must be backed by credible facts rather than speculation or politically driven narratives.
Wike also urged Nigerians to allow relevant authorities to thoroughly investigate the issues surrounding the PFIPC controversy without interference or sensationalism. He noted that due process remains the most appropriate avenue for establishing the truth and ensuring accountability where necessary.
Reaffirming his confidence in the Chief of Staff, the minister insisted that Gbajabiamila should not be condemned in the court of public opinion without sufficient evidence. He added that democratic governance thrives when institutions are allowed to perform their duties objectively and fairly.
He concluded by calling on political actors to promote responsible engagement and avoid actions capable of undermining public confidence in government institutions. Wike emphasized that national development is better served through constructive dialogue, adherence to the rule of law, and respect for due process.
