Kalu Reaffirms SEDC Must Operate From South-East as Senate Committee Inspects Enugu Headquarters
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on the South-East Development Commission (SEDC), Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has insisted that the commission must operate from the region rather than Abuja. He made the position clear during an oversight inspection of the commission’s facilities in Enugu, stressing the importance of locating its operations close to the people it was established to serve.
During the inspection, Kalu expressed satisfaction with the improvements recorded at the commission’s headquarters. He noted, however, that the ultimate measure of its success would be its ability to deliver meaningful development and improve the lives of communities across the five states.
The former Abia State governor also announced that the Senate committee would return in December for another assessment of the commission’s progress. The planned visit is expected to provide an opportunity to review developments at the headquarters and evaluate how effectively the commission is advancing its mandate.
Kalu further indicated that the earlier disagreement over the location of the commission’s operations had been resolved. His renewed emphasis on a regional base underscores the committee’s position that the SEDC should remain accessible to the people and focused on addressing their development needs.
