Office of the Deputy Speaker
Rt. Hon. Rep. Benjamin Okezie Kalu PhD, LL.D, CFR
Yesterday, at the Joint Sitting of the National Assembly, I joined my honourable colleagues and distinguished Senators to receive the presentation of the 2026 Appropriation Bill by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
The budget tagged “Budget of Consolidation, Renewed Resilience and Shared Prosperity,” with projected revenues of ₦34 trillion and a managed deficit of ₦23.85 trillion (4.28% of GDP), reflects that our nation is not merely weathering global economic turbulence but is strategically positioning itself to thrive despite unprecedented headwinds.

As the Parliament, our constitutional duty is to ensure that the vision of the Executive, as clearly articulated by Mr President, is realised through this Appropriation Act.
We will be diligent and vigilant in ensuring that Ministries, Departments, and Agencies align their budgetary proposals and implementation strictly with the national objectives, meeting the aspirations of the Nigerian people.

Our nation is on the right path and with courage, commitment and focus, our journey to achieving economic growth and prosperity remains unstoppable.
