Onyeama Augustine Calls for Realistic Campaign Promises and Accountability
Onyeama Augustine has urged politicians seeking elective positions to be sincere and realistic in their campaign promises, stressing that candidates should not make commitments they may be unable to fulfil after assuming office. He advised aspirants to focus on achievable programmes and policies that respond directly to the needs and expectations of the people.
He also called on political office holders seeking another term to make their records available for public scrutiny. According to him, voters deserve to know what serving representatives have accomplished during their tenure, adding that past performance should form an important part of the conversation whenever an incumbent seeks re-election.
Augustine further encouraged political candidates to examine the antecedents and legislative achievements of Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, as an example of how effective representation can translate into development at the grassroots. He noted that projects and interventions associated with Kalu's representation have contributed to discussions about the dividends of democracy in Bende Federal Constituency.
He added that the support for continuity among sections of the constituency, according to him, is linked to the ongoing projects and development initiatives attributed to the Deputy Speaker. Augustine therefore urged politicians to focus less on empty promises and more on demonstrating what they can realistically deliver.
