The Ebonyi State Police Command has launched a comprehensive investigation following the alleged murder of 70-year-old Elder Amos Onwe Ubochi, shortly after endorsing opposition candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“The command received information that the lifeless body of Amos Onwe Ubochi was discovered along a bush path within the community after he left his residence on August 17 and failed to return,” Ukandu said.
“Upon receiving the report, police operatives visited the scene and evacuated the body to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, where he was formally confirmed dead.”
“The command has commenced a comprehensive investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding his death and identify those responsible.”
“We assure members of the public that every necessary step will be taken to get to the root of this incident, and we urge anyone with useful information to come forward.”
Reacting to the killing, Tochukwu Ogalagu, the APGA candidate for the Ohaukwu/Ebonyi Federal Constituency, strongly condemned the act, alleging that his death was a result of political intimidation.
“Elder Amos Onwe Ubochi was hale and hearty during our consultation on August 17, where he led other elders in prayers and offered his blessing,” Ogalagu stated.
“Afterward, while trekking home alone, he was waylaid, abducted, murdered, and dumped in a stream.”
“His family searched for him throughout the night, only to find his fully clothed body sitting upright in a stream far off the main path to his compound. This killing is a fulfillment of threats issued by desperate political actors in the constituency. The blood of this innocent elder will speak against the perpetrators and their sponsors.”

“I urge all APGA faithful in the constituency to remain calm, vigilant, and resolute as law enforcement agents work to unravel this crime. No amount of threats, intimidation, or shedding of innocent blood will stop an idea whose time has come. We extend our deepest sympathies and unwavering support to his family during this painful time.”
