Bende Deserves a Campaign Built on Vision, Not Political Entitlement

The recurring "it is my turn" narrative being promoted by Hon. Chima Anyaso and members of the Labour Party has continued to generate debate among political observers. Many believe that contesting for an elective office should never be based on claims of entitlement or rotation alone. Public office, they argue, is neither a personal inheritance nor a position that automatically belongs to any individual simply because they desire it.
Rather than focusing so much attention on Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu,Ph.D, CFR, critics suggest that Hon. Chima Anyaso should dedicate more effort to presenting himself as the preferred choice for the people of Bende Federal Constituency. They maintain that voters deserve to hear his vision for the constituency, his legislative priorities, the bills he intends to sponsor, and the practical solutions he has for the challenges confronting the people.
Supporters of issue-based politics insist that leadership is earned through competence, integrity, proven capacity, and the confidence of the electorate. They argue that repeatedly insisting on "it's my turn" is not a convincing campaign strategy. Instead, aspirants should demonstrate why they are better prepared to provide effective representation and deliver meaningful results for their constituents.
Bende Federal Constituency is home to more than half a million or more people whose expectations extend far beyond political slogans. The electorate deserves robust discussions on economic development, employment opportunities, road infrastructure, quality education, healthcare delivery, security, and other policies capable of improving the standard of living across the constituency. Political campaigns, therefore, should revolve around practical ideas and measurable plans rather than appeals based on perceived entitlement.
As preparations for the 2027 elections continue, many believe that Hon. Chima Anyaso should present his manifesto, achievements, and vision before the electorate, allowing voters to compare them with the performance and record of the incumbent before making an informed choice. The people of Bende are widely regarded as politically aware and discerning, and they are expected to base their decision on competence, credibility, and capacity. Ultimately, the defining question in 2027 may not be "Whose turn is it?" but rather, "Who is best prepared to represent and advance the interests of Bende Federal Constituency?"
