Osun 2026: Police Announce Movement Restriction, Reiterate Ban on Amotekun, Others
The Osun State Police Command has announced movement restrictions ahead of the 2026 governorship election as part of measures to ensure a peaceful, orderly and credible electoral process. The directive is aimed at limiting unnecessary movement and preventing activities that could threaten public safety during the poll.
The police also reiterated the ban on the involvement of Amotekun and other non-state security groups in election security operations. The command stressed that only recognised and authorised security agencies are permitted to perform security duties during the election.
According to the police, no vigilante organisation, non-state security group or other unauthorised body will be allowed to assume or exercise the responsibilities of recognised security agencies. The warning is intended to prevent confusion, intimidation and possible clashes during the election.
The command urged political parties, candidates, supporters and residents across Osun State to comply fully with the movement restriction and other security directives. It warned that anyone found violating the regulations would face appropriate action in accordance with the law.
Security personnel have been directed to maintain a strong presence across polling areas and other strategic locations throughout the election period. The police said their priority remains the protection of lives and property while ensuring that eligible voters can exercise their democratic rights without fear.

As voters prepare to decide the next governor of Osun State, the police called on all stakeholders to remain peaceful, avoid inflammatory conduct and cooperate with security agencies. The command appealed to residents to report suspicious activities and support efforts to ensure a safe and credible election.
