Residents Appeal to Abia Government for Urgent Rehabilitation of Aba Link Roads

Just In:
Open Letter to the Abia State Government:
Urgent Appeal for Rehabilitation of Aba Link Roads

To:
Dr. Alex Chioma Otti,
The Executive Governor
Abia State

Your Excellency, we write to respectfully draw the attention of the Abia State Government to the deplorable and dangerous condition of the ring road connecting Nwaigwe Street, off 40 Brass Road, through St. Paul’s Street to Aba-Owerri Road. The road has reportedly remained abandoned for several years, leaving residents, motorists and business owners to contend with serious difficulties, particularly during the rainy season.

The affected road network also provides important connections from Omenazu Street, Udi Street, Okezie Street and Nwagba Street to Aba-Owerri Road through the Binez Hotel axis. These link roads serve as important access routes for residents and businesses in the area, but their poor condition has made movement increasingly difficult and has adversely affected economic activities within the communities.

One of the major challenges confronting residents and business owners is severe flooding whenever it rains. The deteriorated state of the roads and surrounding drainage conditions reportedly cause floodwaters to accumulate, affecting homes, shops, properties and businesses. For people whose livelihoods depend on daily commercial activities, the recurring flooding has become a serious burden, resulting in disruptions and losses.

We therefore respectfully appeal to the Abia State Government under your leadership to come to the aid of the affected communities by urgently intervening in the rehabilitation of these link roads. With the dry season now approaching, we believe this presents an opportunity for the government to commence necessary roadworks and drainage improvements before another cycle of heavy rainfall exposes residents to the same difficulties.

Your Excellency, we sincerely appeal for prompt government action on these roads so that residents can move freely, protect their properties and sustain their businesses and livelihoods. We believe that rehabilitating this important network of roads will significantly improve accessibility, reduce traffic/ congestion along Aba Owerri - road, reduce the impact of flooding and contribute to the economic wellbeing of the people living and doing business in the area.
