Spotify Adds 11m Active Users In 3rd Quarter To Reach 788m

Music streaming giant Spotify added 11 million monthly active users in the third quarter of the year, bringing its total to 788 million by the end of September, an 11 per cent increase compared with the same period last year. The company also recorded a nine per cent annual growth in paying subscribers, reaching 306 million and surpassing its forecast of 305 million. Third-quarter revenue rose by 16 per cent to €4.97 billion, while operating income increased by 15 per cent to €672 million. Spotify co-chief executive Alex Norstrom said the company had delivered on its targets, describing the quarter as evidence of a strong and steadily growing business. Looking ahead, Spotify expects to reach 818 million monthly active users and 316 million paying subscribers by the end of the year. The company is also expanding its audiobook services, with access extending to more than 180 markets. Amid growing concerns over AI-generated music and spam, Spotify said it had removed more than 50 million spam and low-quality tracks from recommendations this year. The platform has also introduced badges to help identify AI-generated creators and verify authentic artist profiles.
