Veteran Actor, Richard Mofe-Damijo.
Veteran actor, filmmaker, and former Delta State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD), has been named keynote speaker for the 6th International Peace Anyiam-Osigwe Nigeria Digital Content Regulation Conference (PAO-NDCRC).
The annual summit, organised by the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), will take place on November 18–19, 2026, at the MUSON Centre in Onikan, Lagos.
RMD becomes the first male motion-picture practitioner selected to deliver the conference keynote, following media executive Mo Abudu in 2024 and filmmaker Bolanle Austen-Peters in 2025.
Navigating Regulation Versus Innovation
This year’s conference is themed “Film and Content Production in the Digital Era: Balancing Regulation and Innovation.”
The event comes at a crucial juncture for Nigeria’s creative economy, as streaming platforms, independent online creators, and traditional filmmakers navigate evolving state censorship rules, copyright enforcement, and monetization challenges across digital channels.
With a career spanning journalism, screen acting, corporate public relations, and public office, RMD’s background bridges both creative production and government administration.
Dr. Shaibu Husseini, Executive Director and CEO of the NFVCB, noted that RMD’s dual background in policy and entertainment aligns with the conference’s goal of aligning regulatory frameworks with market growth.
“RMD represents a distinctive blend of creative excellence, entrepreneurial experience, and public service,” Husseini said in a statement. “His journey across film, media, business, and cultural administration offers valuable perspectives on the policy conversations required to sustain the growth of Nigeria’s creative industries.”
Addressing The Digital Streaming Landscape
As international streaming services and social video platforms expand their reach across Africa, regulatory bodies face increasing pressure to balance consumer protection with creative freedom.
Husseini emphasised that state oversight must adapt to digital shifts without stifling artistic output or commercial investments.
“As the boundaries between film, television, and digital content continue to evolve, our challenge as regulators is to create an environment where innovation can flourish while protecting audiences and supporting the sustainable development of the industry,” Husseini added.
The two-day conference will gather filmmakers, digital distributors, platform representatives, legal experts, and policymakers.
Convened annually by the NFVCB, the event honours the legacy of the late Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, founder of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), for her contributions to African cinema and industry development.
